Advice for Doug Ford

The Canadian TAXPAYERS Federation sends me daily emails to prompt me to write a letter to an elected politician. Today, Shannon Morrison sicked me onto Doug Ford. Grrrrr.

Shannon’s plea began with…

Hi Gene,

Premier Doug Ford has a dirty little debt secret he doesn’t want you to know about.

What is it? He’s borrowing more money than former premier Kathleen Wynne.

Ford keeps telling you he’ll kick his debt habit. Last year, he promised this year’s budget would be balanced.

My plea to Doug Ford.

Premier Ford.

You are a businessman, correct?! 

Would you run your business at loss every year in perpetuity? 

Of course not! 

Then why don’t you correct Ontario’s perennial deficit and debt problems? 

Since Payroll and Employee Benefits are the province’s  largest budget item, Payroll and Employee Benefits are the right place to “trim the fat” in a sustainable manner.

Suggestions: 

1. Institute a hiring freeze today. Allow annual employee turnover to bring the total OPS workforce down to sustainable levels.

2. Pass a Budget Freeze & Balance Bill to cap public spending and to trigger an automatic hiring freeze every year that the government exceeds the prior year’s budgeted spending. 

3. Pass a “Back off Unions” Bill to prevent labour unions from gaming every election to their advantage at the expense of everyone else. Their Marxist policy preferences are NOT in the interests of every Ontario citizen and must no longer hold sway in the outcomes of provincial elections. Unions should not be allowed to generate propaganda through advertising or through “get out the vote” messaging campaigns which “encourage” members to vote for their self-serving Marxist policies and candidates. 

This last suggestion is a big ask

Putting a leash on the Big Labour pit bull (no offence to pit bulls or their owners intended) is badly needed to restore genuine democracy in Ontario ==> One vote per person according to their personal beliefs and conscience cast privately without coercive pressure from union peers and bosses.

The first two suggestions are doable with a your Conservative majority. It only takes some courage and a willingness to do the right thing for the people you serve.
