My visit to Port Hope, and aptly named town.
Last nite, I attended a public presentation at Port Hope High School concerning the Climate Change Crisis. About 60 people were present to witness Grant Linney’s pitch on the urgency of the problem - “time is running out to save the planet”, and the importance of urging elected officials to take ‘climate action’ now. Two city counsellors were in the auditorium; one organized the event.
Surveying the audience, I saw mostly greyheads. Except for one heckler at the back of the room, everyone appeared to have accepted the crisis to be real. They were all well-meaning and sincere in their desire to pressure governments to step up their efforts to save the planet for future generations.
I attended the event to pass out a one page notification of my new book, ‘What to do about Climate Change, A Libertarian Proposal’ available on Amazon Kindle. Except for one lady, everyone accepted my handout respectfully. .
During Q & A, I asked the following question:
“Over the past ten years, Canada’s federal government has spent in excess of $60,000,000,000 on ‘Climate Action’ and has no significant progress to show for it. (I then referenced one of Grant’s charts which showed that Canada has barely budged it's rate of CO2 emissions and the graph show our progress to be the worst compared to 6 other G7 nations). If politicians and government agencies have shown such a poor result on that investment, what makes you believe that they will be successful with our money in the next ten years?”
Grant had no answer and passed the hot potato to Mathew, his Zoom co-presenter. Mathew offered a lame argument that $60 billion is too small a proportion of Canada’s national GDP to solve such a big problem which is why more ‘Climate Action’ from our elected representatives continues to be vital.
Who are Grant and Mattew?
I guess I should have mentioned something about Grant Linney and his associate. They are both representatives of Al Gore’s The Climate Reality Project.
Grant is a retired teacher who claims to “passionate” about ‘Climate Action’ to save our youth from a dismal future. Last nite’s presentation was the 847th time he has delivered it. An Internet search reveals that Linney’s university degree was a Bachelor of Arts and there is no evidence of any past work experience that required strong knowledge of science (particularly Physics and Chemistry). Mathew completed a BFA (fine arts) and an MBA (no science).
The overall presentation had the same feeling of propaganda and fear-mongering as Al Gore’s in the 2006 film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. Their claims were sensational, overly simplistic, unsubstantiated by genuine Scientific research, and clearly made to stir up citizen activism for more Climate Action. Grant's last PowerPoint slide showed two words: SAD and MAD. He said that “the crisis may make you SAD, but only MAD will prompt you to act”.
Al Gore is a politician who also has no academic credentials or work history that required strong Science knowledge, other than ‘political science’. The whole Climate Change Crisis industry was started and has been promoted and sustained by politicians and government institutions globally. Today, I refer to its collective manifestation as the CLIMATE CHANGE GOVERNMENTAL COMPLEX. Most of the past $60,000,000,000 expenditures went to pay for the salaries and benefits of those employed with in, or otherwise dependent upon, funding from the CCGC (best estimate is 88%).
Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project is a political lobby.
Through this organization, Gore recruits and engages gullible (i.e. absent scientific knowledge) disciples to spread it's message to other gullible citizens to organize local groups that will continue to pressure politicians to spent more tax dollars on a failed cause.
“Act local” was one theme and the final takeaway message. Attendees were advised to write letters to local elected officials and participate in group walks to spread the message within the Port Hope community. Does anyone reading this aspire to be another Al Gore disciple?
Great article as usual with many factual points for others to consider. All the politicians need to butt out of areas they have no specialty in. The fear mongering has to stop. I am curious to know if these presenters knew anything about Bill Gates' involvement in trying to cloud the sun and all the money he is spending on geoengineering....yes, BG has his hands in that too....
