America Party
Elon Musk’s MAGA hopes were dashed when Donald Trump introduced the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ with $Trillions in planned spending. The former DOGE chief felt that Bill as a slap in the face.
Blow back begins.
Treasury Secretary Responds to Musk’s Intention to Form ‘America Party’

My perspective.
I have been a member of, and a candidate representing, the federal Libertarian Party of Canada (LPoC), the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) and the Ontario Libertarian Party (OLP) for many years. These parties are considered “fringe” by the media, the general public, and the government organizations that regulate them and our elections.
The Libertarian parties have suffered from the lack of sufficient funding and manpower to promote their candidates and platforms. For 50 years, they have failed to raise their profiles as legitimate and respectful alternatives to the major establishment parties - the Conservatives, Liberals, BLOC Québécois, New Democratic Party.
Another shortfall of these “fringe” players has been the absence of a “star” leader. How many Canadian voters know the names of Mark Snow (OLP) or Jacques Boudreau (LPoC)? I rest my case.
Elon Musk has everything that our “fringe” actors lack.
Does his wealth and fame suggest that Elon will be able to pull off a ‘Mad Max’ like Maxime Bernier did successfully when he introduced the PPC to Canadian federal politics in 2019, and then to subsequently gain widespread attention and support of voters nationwide?
Will the America Party succeed at winning a sufficient number of American hearts, minds and votes to upset the hegemony of the Republicans and Democrats 🤔❓
👎 I don’t like his odds 🎲🎲
Musk is naive about the Deep State.
My advice to Elon is to stay in his lane and abandon his dreams for an America Party.
He will most certainly lose his time, money and “his mind” with this impossible and thankless venture. The arena of politics bedevils the very best of us even under the best of circumstances.
Advocates for less government.
I consider both Elon Musk and Maxime Bernier to be “minarchist libertarians”. Their platforms typically promote policies for balanced budgets and responsible debt; smaller and more effective agencies carrying out clear purposes unblemished from “pork barrel” politics; and effective administrations that serve all Americans equally and fairly under unbiased and just laws. This has been the Libertarian dream since its inception.
Some people liken “classical liberalism” to minarchist libertarianism. In truth, there is not much difference between them.
Max could have led the LPoC, and Elon the LP.
In 2018, Maxime Bernier met with Tim Moen, the then leader of the LPoC, in Ottawa during the LPoC’s Annual General Meeting. I was there. I attended the presentations and met Maxime for the first time post-conference at the dinner venue. The buzz among other LPoC attendees was about the back room negotiations between Bernier and Moen pertaining to the prospect of Bernier replacing Moen for LPoC Leadership. Among the people with whom I discussed this possibility, the feelings were mixed.
Maxime abandoned the LPoC leadership idea to form his own party. Elon Musk, like Bernier, holds values and ambitions that align well with the core Libertarian principles. The Libertarian Party (LP) of America would likely have been warm to the idea of Elon leading the LP.
I believe Max made the right choice. By creating the PPC, he avoided the baggage that would have come with a decision to lead the LPoC. Musk apparently is thinking the same thing with his America Party announcement.
No chance for Musk to win.
The legions of stakeholders orbiting America’s political establishments are vastly larger that anyone can imagine. Musk, like the last American billionaire who tried to capture the crown of America politics, Ross Perot, will surely meet his Waterloo moment and leave politics with his tail between his legs.
For me, I hope Elon succeeds. American, like Canada, desperately needs a complete re-think about the role of governments in our lives. Average citizens have been absent for far too long in all discussions pertaining to them. Instead, lobbyists and other special interest groups, get their seat at the table whenever discussions take place about how to tax and spend what citizens earn and remit (by legislative force 🤯) to fund all manner of “public investments and initiatives” 😤.
Like Dr. Martin Luther King, “I have a dream❗️”
I wrote and published Digital Direct Democracy (DDD) in 2023 because I see a path forward towards a vastly superior form of democracy.
Regrettably, my voice and resources are too small to compete with Canada’s “deep state”.
My dream is unlikely to be heard by the people who matter.
I wish that I could have some time with Elon to discuss DDD.
With his Engineer’s mind, deep passion for creating solutions for intractable problems, and his natural DOGE instincts, I believe that Elon Musk would appreciate DDD when others would not, and he may be the best champion alive to see and realize its real potential for success.
