Available and affordable housing.
Housing is front and centre in the minds of those who don’t have it, those struggling to keep it, and those in politics who are constantly reminded about the importance of this issue.
Well done.
Last note, I attended a Public Information Session by TOR Construction Ltd which was announced by Kawartha Now.
This event at the Fenelon Falls Community Centre attracted about 500 residents including Mayor Doug Elmslie, and Councilors Mike Perry and Ron Ashmore.
Scott Waterhouse, RPP, (pictured) is Planning Manager for this project. He presented an overview of the early-concept plans to develop a new residential neighbourhood featuring 894 housing units located at the northeast border of Fenelon Falls.
TOR Construction was described as a young company with about 30 employees that has already completed several projects of a similar nature within Southern Ontario.
The entire event was professional and informative.
It set the appropriate tone and public expectations for the project which is just beginning a long journey to plan, receive government approvals, and complete this multi-phased construction undertaking. Over the next decade or more, each phase will only proceed when the City of Kawartha Lakes has provided the necessary infrastructure to support it.
Welcome TOR Construction Ltd.
I have no concerns about this project based on what I saw and learned last night. In fact, I welcome it. Other residents have expressed some concerns which, at this point, I do not share because details will unfold over the months and years to come. Only then can concerns be of a material nature instead of a speculative nature.
Available and affordable housing is a top public concern in Ontario. This project is a positive step towards addressing that issue.
Gene, since this project is in the early stages a lot of questions still arise despite the professional nature of the presentation.
The NE corner of Fenelon Falls is largely inaccessible. A new bridge would be required as well as a water treatment facility. These are big concerns in my mind as the City has planned poorly for this eventuality.
