Champions of Free Speech
Leading independent media journalists warn us about the federal government’s payroll subsidies for corporate and private newsrooms. Government bribery erodes free speech in the media.
Trust the mainstream media has fallen nearly as fast as trust in Trudeau’s Liberal/NDP coalition government.
Tara Henley is an ex-CBC journalist and a co-signatory of the OTTAWA DECLARATION. In her linked Substack article, Tara wrote:
“Earlier this month, the Liberal Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville, Taleeb Noormohamed, publicly chastised The National Post’s new senior comment editor, Terry Newman. Ms. Newman had slammed the immigration minister, who’s been under fire lately, tweeting: “Incredible how much damage a party and minister can do to a country in 9 years.” Noormohamed has an aggressive style … he clapped back at Newman, tweeting:
“Your paper wouldn’t be in business were it not for the subsidies that the government that you hate put in place — the same subsidies your Trump-adjacent foreign hedge fund owners gladly take to pay your salary.”
Watch CREATIVE DESTRUCTION in action.
I encourage my followers to read Tara’s entire article. She provides an “inside baseball” look at the death throes of a dying sector of the economy - the traditional media sector.
Of course, the Internet is to blame for its slow and painful demise. The Internet is the most powerful force in history to enable and facilitate the ages old force of change known as CREATIVE DESTRUCTION.
These has always been lots of “waiting and gnashing of teeth” with every significant innovation and the devastation it leaves in its wake. The major difference this time is the size and scope of its tsunami-like impacts.
To Davy Jones’s Locker you go.
The sheer arrogance and hubris of Liberal Member of Parliament Taleeb Noormohamed was on full display as he openly admitted to the Liberal bribery of the media.
Congratulations to Terry Newman for goading Taleeb into such a public and glaring admission of guilt.
Hopefully, his prospects for re-election just experienced a “Titanic” moment.
Read the DECLARATION
The Ottawa Declaration of Canadian Journalism is definitely worth a read.
Don’t forget to look as the list of signatories and remember their names as your champions of Free Speech and Freedom of the Press. Without them, you can expect endless propaganda and censorship from “now til the cows come home”.
That declaration needs thousands of signatures, but it is a good start. Not sure if this will happen as they prefer their paychecques (whoever pays them seems irrelevant) over doing the right thing. Great article!
What use is the fourth estate if it is riddled with conflicts of interest via these government subsidies?
Time for Canadians to pay out of their own pocket for news, and have the journalists accountable to us.
Either way, we end up paying.
