Martin suggested an ‘OPT-IN’ option for citizens to decide if they are willing to donate some of their taxes towards corporate subsidies, or not. Fund-raising is already common in the private sector.

Martin recently offered a comment to the following post….
His comment
“It would be nice if there was an "opt in" for the 50+ billion dollars in subsidies that the Canadian government has committed to a few companies to manufacture EV batteries. I don't ever recall the government subsidizing the manufacture of vehicle gas tanks or any other commercial product to this prodigious extent in the past. The free market used to take care of that.
With hundreds of billions of dollars floating about on Bay Street looking for viable investments to fund, why is it necessary for the Canadian government to gamble with the money earned and remitted by taxpayers?
If everyone truly believed the climate narrative, and that EVs were a viable solution, wouldn't every Canadian investor want to get in on the action? That would be an honest barometer of Canadians' willingness to "opt in" on this venture.”
My reply.
Martin. I agree with your perspective and suggestion in principle. Unfortunately, all existing laws, regulations and taxes have been established on the OPT-IN ASSUMPTION that EVERYONE MUST PAY and NO ONE IS ALLOWED to OPT OUT.
Outside of these government-imposed OPT-IN ASSUMPTION, the free market already allows me to OPT-IN to any and all investment opportunities by buying corporate securities, or donating to charities/NGOs, or investing in my own business.
The only way to CANCEL a government-imposed OPT-IN ASSUMPTION is to REPEAL the laws or CANCEL the regulations that makes them legally enforceable by authorized government entities.
The power to repeal is in the wrong hands
The only people who have the authority to repeal laws and cancel regulations are the ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES chosen by “the majority (??!)” of voters in elections and the UNELECTED government officials who has been empowered to make regulatory decisions “on our behalf.”
I wrote DIGITAL DIRECT DEMOCRACY because…
I don’t like strangers making decisions for me without including my direct and unrestricted input.
DDD provides a way for individuals like me to OPT OUT of certain laws, regulations and taxes that I don’t approve.
Such Freedom of Informed Choice seems an eminently reasonable authority for each citizen to possess in a truly democratic society, don’t you agree?
To be blunt, the DDD concept provides the average Canadian the potential to take some of that “monopoly power” out of the hands of those “strangers-with-too-much-power” and place it into the hands of the only people who must live with the consequences of “OPT IN mandates” - YOU and ME.
No trust or respect.
I don’t know if you also feel helpless under the thumb of Canada’s “nanny state” - one that doesn’t trust us to be grown-up, responsible citizens. I feel perfectly capable to make my own decisions on many public matters such as choosing to OPT-OUT of paying carbon taxes or submitting to an injection of an experimental serum. I don’t need absentee babysitters in Ottawa and elsewhere to make significant major choices in my life.
In my view, the Canadian nanny state was not created to help individual Canadians like me. Instead, it exists largely to create jobs in the government sector and justify high taxes to pay for them.
The people in those jobs know nothing about me except possibly some data of questionable accuracy on a computer file that does little to build their faith or trust in me to make informed and responsible choices.
I am not alone
I can only speak for myself and make observations of others, but it seems clear to me that Martin and I am not the only Canadians who wants more freedom from the grasp of an excessively expensive, insensitive and powerful nanny state.
While there is some comfort in this knowledge, there is not much else. We all share the feeling of being trapped by its reality and hoping against all odds to find a way to OPT OUT.
Canadian laws were crafted by the British Crown, deliberately made weak and easy to manipulate by a crooked executive cabinet which can, in turn, be easily positioned in power by powerbrokers acting on behalf of many centuries-old British interests. The British élite have always treated Canada as a backup and a purposely underutilized resource, in case they needed to draw from such. Ask yourself, if you were the crooked British Crown and ruling élite of the time, why you would, willy-nilly, just give up the 2nd largest country in the world to a small collection of plebeian colonialists... located dangerously next to the ramble that booted the monarchy from the other half of the North Anerican continent. These were the same cold-blooded people who created the calculating, senseless wars with the help of the Rothschilds. The answer is that you wouldn't. Canada's make-belief sovereignty is a shadow game, played by puppet masters in the UK. Our laws are rigged to just look nice but are in fact ultimately ineffective in protecting the rights of its citizens, on purpose. Justin Trudeau proved this as he has been drawing on the deliberate boobytraps built into our legal system to commit crimes and not be held to account, because his PM position is deliberately designed to be able to circumvent all efforts to hold him accountable. In fact, his father Pierre tried to really put the screws to Canadians when he "crafted" the repatriation of our constitution with the Queen, but Québec's Levesque torpedoed it and despite repeated attempts to bring all provinces together on this, it never succeeded. So the repatriation was totally invalid as all provinces have to sign to it. Canada does not have a constitution but everyone in government, media and academia perennially pretend otherwise (HINT: if the constitution is invalid then no Canadian federal government has the power to enact any new laws. All such laws are void). You only have to see how Justin Trudeau has continued this charade to know the whole system (with the other parties playing along) is perverse by design. This is why our politicians behave so nonchalantly when they openly act in a treasonous manner, they know. The other confirmation is that there is no objection, not even a mild rebuke, from the British Crowne. Trudeau is playing out the final act of this diabolical British imperial drama. He is activating all of the erstwhile hidden trap doors, in plain sight for the blind majority and the few who can actually use their eyes to see. Canada is a fake country.
