CREATION, REALITY & MIND eposide #5 Black Holes, Big Bang, Quantum Energy.
I hope you like science fiction. This Substack episode was inspired by a fascinating discussion between two brilliant men.
Captured by IMAGINATION.
The ideas discussed by Sean and Lex have tickled my imagination in ways that I am about to describe. As you read this, you may think I have taken a journey into scientific madness. That would be your prerogative.
Rod Serling Speaks from the dead.
For those of you who are old enough to remember, here is a peek at Rod Serling introducing The Twilight Zone. This is where you are about to enter if you choose to read further.
TWO DIMENSIONS require TWO DEFINITIONS.
Physics -
The investigation of phenomenon that can be observed and measured. (eg. time, space, matter.)
Metaphysics -
The investigation of phenomenon that can be observed but are beyond measurement. (eg. feelings, thoughts, dreams, intuitions, etc.)
“A tiny mad idea”
Some 30 years ago, I read in ACIM that “the universe was created from a tiny mad idea”. It was a strange concept at the time, but now it makes perfect sense to me and it explains possibilities that baffle Physics.
Black Holes
Sean and Lex pondered what might happen if a person standing on the edge of a black hole were to fall into it. Black holes attract matter (objects with mass) by the most powerful gravitational forces yet discovered by scientists. The person’s physical body would disintegrate into photons was their proposed theory.
However, what would happen to the contents of the person’s mind if all thoughts, memories and feelings are elements of consciousness which possess no mass?
Sean speculated that the mind’s data would remain at the mouth of the black hole.
BUT, what form or substance might that data take so that it be measured by scientists?
If humans could capture and store that data, then a Physicist like Sean might be able to measure and study it as a research problem. However, science has (so far) been unable to directly observe and measure the contents of mind. Metaphysics seems better suited to study this topic.
A Metaphysical Hypothesis.
I have postulated that all human perception of the “external world” takes place in the non-material realm of consciousness - the mind. Here’s how…
Individual perceptions that occur within a mind will generate artifacts of consciousness (’articons’).
These are the non-material creations of every being of consciousness produced continually from “birth” to “death” with every human experience.
Each articon remains within the Universal Mind, an eternal and boundless ‘field’ of pure consciousness. Every being of consciousness creates articons to become manifest as universally-present ArtiCons (Artifacts of Consciousness) within the Universal Mind.
An infinite number of ArtiCons compose the “landscape of metaphysical reality”, the Universal Mind, experienced by the individual mind of every sentient being.
The Physical Theory.
Scientists believe our external reality to be composed of an infinite number of atoms. As already stated, sciences like Physics, Cosmology, and more have been invented through evolutionary experimentation, research & development processes involving the ability to measure observed phenomenon.
As already discussed, the metaphysical hypothesis proposes a non-physical alternative- some may describe as an illusion or equate to a hologram. The underlying premise is that all human observations occur in mind and manifest from an infinite number of Articons within an infinite mindscape (i.e. “universal consciousness”). This idea is not easy to envision or even consider as a possible theory in a universe that is apparently very much “physical”.
Physicists like Sean Carroll will often reject all theories from metaphysical philosophers associated with fascinating the field of Panpsychism. It deals with ideas about the mind, consciousness and related topics.
If I were to meet Sean Carroll, I would like to postulate the following thought experiment for his consideration while exploring all ideas which he claims to enjoy doing.
WHAT IF ArtiCons and articons exist but only occur in Consciousness, AND are not subject to the influences of time, space or matter. IF true, THEN theoretically they can never be destroyed. IF they exist eternally beyond time, space and matter, THEN the could theoretically manifest again in another life. Could this be considered a valid theory for dreams, “spirits” and beliefs like reincarnation?
IF Sean’s speculation that data is all that remains of a person falling into a black hole, THEN HOW does he envision the possible ways that scientists will be able to collect then measure and analyse the data if it does not present itself in a material form (remember: the body is gone)
Hocus, Pocus?
This weekend, a Psychic Fair is taking place town. Tarot card readers, seance mediums, and other paranormal psychics will entertain guests with their alleged ability to communicate with the spirits of family members, past and present. Sean Carroll is unlikely to be seen amidst the crowds because physics can offer no plausible explanation for the stories told.
I wonder what Physicist Sean Carroll would say if I suggested that psychic fairs are metaphysical events in which the thoughts and feeling of “spirits” are shared through the non-physical medium of consciousness and retained as ArtiCons within the Universal Mind.
Unlike atoms which Sean can observe and measure, he can’t test ArtiCons and validate their existence. However, every human being can vouch for the existence of their thoughts, feelings, dreams and memories.
So, if we are taught and are expected to believe that atoms are real according to the domain of Physics, why can’t physicists acknowledge that ArtiCons are a legitimate hypothesis about the nature of creation and reality in the domain of Metaphysics?
Strange but true.
I find it strange that some people will believe in some things they cannot see with the naked eye (such as God, the Devil, angels, Heaven and Hell), but the same people will insist that other things must be validated by “peer reviewed research” before “truth” can be determined. For example, some state “God is real” but scientic study must validate other claims such as “climate change is not a significant threat to humanity” or a flawed PCR test must be trusted to confirm a covid “case”.
A Fun Problem for Sean.
So far, we’ve explored a topic that is outside of Sean Carroll’s wheelhouse of measuable things. Let’s give Sean a topic that he can ponder with Science, Engineering and Physics.
QUESTION for Sean: How did the atoms form to create Earth?
Let’s consider what physicists and cosmologists tell us about our galaxy expressed in layman’s terms and beginning with:
The sun is a massive fusion reactor. It generates and radiates enormous quantities of energy some of which travels through frictionless space as quadrillions of nano-packets of energy called photons.
The Earth is comprised of quadrillions of atoms. Each atom has a nucleus consisting of an equal number of protons and neutrons to manifest a +ve charge. Circulating around the nucleus are circular shells containing -ve charged electrons which orbit in sufficient numbers to balance the +ve charge of the nucleus. The result is a electromagnetically-neutral particle (atom) containing Quantum Energy.
Einstein claimed that E=mc2. “Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared”. This equation can be used to calculate the mass of a photon if the energy it holds is known.
SUB-QUESTION. Were all atoms created from photons?
HYPOTHESIS: Atoms (maybe iron?) exist at the sun’s core in massive concentrations to serve as the fuel source for the ongoing fusion reaction. At the time of Earth’s formation, unknown conditions acted on photons from the sun as they travelled through space-time. Something (currently unknown?) triggered a reaction which reversed the state of photons back into their original ‘physical’ form - atoms. The Earth was born from this “something”.
Analogy: Like water vapour on a misty morning, water droplets form condensation we call “dew” under the right conditions. If/when the “right conditions” can be found, maybe scientists like Sean can identify what triggered the “condensation” of quadrillions of photons into the same number of atoms to produce Earth’s formation.
And maybe Sean Carroll already knows the scientific story of the Earth’s origin. In any case, it's a fun possibility to imagine if you like sci-fi ideas.
The Metaphysical Big Bang Theory.
The idea that “the universe was created from a tiny mad idea” has intriguing possibilities. Put on your science fiction reading glasses and get ready for an “out of this world” sci-fi premise.
What if:
The Universal Mind exists as a singularity of consciousness (only one dimension). Note that some metaphysical philosophers suggest that the infinite NOW is the only dimension that pre-existed our “reality”.
To entertain itself, The Universal Mind (the “FATHER”) created a duplicate (the “SON”). This “tiny mad idea” produced the first instance of DUALITY. Duality creates the possibility of metaphysical dimensionality including ideas such as time, space and matter.
Like FATHER, like SON. To be entertained by the new possibilities of dimensionality, the SON duplicated (like a cell undergoing mitosis) and those duplicates spawned more duplicates, and so on. This was the metaphysical BIG BANG which mirrors the current theory of the origin and accelerating expansion of the known physical universe.
The metaphysical “universe” can be thought of as the SON’s “Collective Mind” within which the metaphysical Big Bang and expanding metaphysical universe takes place. This is the ethereal element (the “aether”) within which all “beings of consciousness” experience a shared “reality”.
ArtiCons are the ‘artifacts of consciousness’ than emerge from the individual metaphysical experiences of every ‘being of consciousness’. ArtiCons exists within the Collective Mind which, in turn, exists as long as SON exists. [An interesting side note: When Christians refer to “the end of days”, perhaps they have correctly intuited the idea that the FATHER will reverse the “tiny mad idea” and “re-absorb” the SON into the singularity. The “final judgement” may simply mean that the FATHER will judge the entertainment value of all creations within the SON’s Collective Mind.]
Articons, the creations of every being of consciousness, cannot die. They remain as the SON’s building blocks of “reality” to create the very fabric of multidimensional metaphysical “reality” - sights, sounds, touch, smell, feelings, thoughts, dreams and intuitions.
Everything is experienced in mind and all choices made using our endowed ‘will’ are made in reaction to observed ArtiCons.
Morality and ethics are creations of mind. They are ideas held in consciousness articons. Ideas are shared by language which is also held as articons in the mind’s sphere of awareness.
All beings of consciousness exist within the Collective Mind and use ariticons to share wisdom under human-created rules invented to navigate a perceived “life” within a perceived “reality”.
If the FATHER had a “tiny mad idea” to create the SON for the purpose of ENTERTAINMENT, if there really a “right” and “wrong”?
Brilliant dissertation on the hedge of "reality" - I love every single dissection of it. Thanks Gene
