Global Temperature is a mathematical construct.
When discussing Climate Change, it is vital to understand the terms being used.
This morning, I asked my wife if she understood how atmospheric pressure affects ambient temperature. She grunted and went back to sleep.
Now, over delicious coffee, I have finished reading a few science education articles posted on UCAR to get a refresher on my understanding of weather, climate and some of the variables that affect it.
Haunted by Grant Linney.
I am still thinking about the misinformation and disinformation that Grant Linney presented to an audience of ~60 people at Port Hope High School a few nights ago. Of course, he retold the narrative that Climate scientists (employed and funded at taxpayer expense) at the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change) urge humanity to prevent a 1.5 C rise in Global Temperature.
Needless to say, you cannot read a thermometer in your yard and assume that the reading represents Global Temperature. As articles posted on the UCAR site explain, temperature varies widely across the planet at any point in time and is affected by many variables. Since it is impossible for scientists to measure temperatures at every square kilometre on earth at the same instant, Global Temperature estimates are the next best thing. The technologies available to science to capture temperatures are vastly better those available to scientists in1950, or 1900, or at the start of the Industrial Revolution. This is an important consideration because the reliability and accuracy of datasets collected over the past century, and beyond, are questionable. How any reputable scientist can use such datasets and tell the IPPC any confidence that rises in CO2 is the only variable to consider in the Global Warning narrative is beyond me!
Grant Linney is a former teacher, now retired. Why is he working for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project when he could be creating lessons derived from UCAR and other sites to teach children and concerned adults the science of weather and climate? Does he enjoy being a propagandist, or does he just not know any better? A LinkedIn search for Grant reveals that he graduated from Queens University in 1973 with a BA in punning. Yes, punning. That is not a typo. I wonder how his studies in punning informed his knowledge of Climate sciences?
Today’s Global Warming is a mathematically derived aggregation of temperature sampling at thousands of locations across the civilized world. Are these sites uniformly distributed over land masses and water bodies? Are the collected data adjusted for variations in the altitude of the measuring stations and whether they were situated in a meadow or near a city parking lot where nearby factors may influence temperature readings? One study I read long ago showed that 110 variables can affect the accuracy of temperature measurements across ranging geographies. How have the Climate models accounted for these variables in their predictions?
You can understand my skepticism concerning the admonition by Climate alarmists like Grant Linney that we are failing to stop the feared 1.5 C rise in Global Temperature. As long as alarmists like Mr. Linney promote the “crisis” fear porn, and encourage more citizen activism to urge increased government “climate action”, the Climate Change Governmental Complex will continue to grow and demand more sacrifices from citizens to fund their operations at taxpayer expense.
I agree that we have a Climate Change Crisis.
However, it is not the kind that Global Warming “experts” Greta Thunberg or Al Gores disciples claim. Instead, the crisis is the fear induced in children and science- illiterate adults (like Grant) have been repeatedly fed a false narrative that they now believe without question. No thanks to activists like Grant, these folks must now live with the Climate Change Boogeyman hiding under their beds. Shameful.
