God’s AI Game.
How would you like to “play God” with artificial intelligence? We are taught that God has many powers. Creation is likely the greatest among these.
Human Creativity Takes a Leap
New Large Language Models (LLM) are all the rage these days, and for really good reasons. Tools like GPT4 have the potential to unleash a tsunami of creativity in the hands of skilled prompters. In addition, LLMs will evolve rapidly as evidenced by a powerful computational capability has been developed as a GPT plug-in by Stephen Wolfram.
Genius scientists like Dr. Wolfram are busy enhancing the powers of AI tools to address every class of problem and opportunity possible. Mankind is currently at the tadpole stage of development for what is sure to become the most productivity-enhancing toolset if all time when fully mature.
An emerging market.
Prompt Engineering is an new discipline that teaches those who master it to get the most out of the use of LLMs. Developing expertise in prompting is an important skill to be mastered not just by members of the genius and geek class, but by virtually everyone. Like all new technological breakthroughs, they are eventually mastered and adopted widely.
The earliest adopters will be people employed in knowledge professions who quickly discover how AI prompting can help them to compete, innovate and excels in their fields. Someday, these tools will be as commonplace as cell phones are today but their effective use will be limited by the users’ skills.
An analogy us useful here. MS WORD is the world’s most widely used ‘word processing’ tool, but the vast majority of casual users utilize a small fraction of it's capabilities. At the opposite extreme, professionat Technical Writers, make full use of the tool. This is how I see the market for AI Promoting unfolding. Everyone will benefit from leveraging AI tools to the best of their ability and needed utility.
This Prompt Engineering Guide is available now. Only the most “geekie” among us will attempt to master it. Time Magazine reveals a growing market for Prompt Engineers who are highly paid specialists applying AI to ‘big ticket’ applications. While this niche market grows, it will outstrip the supply of qualified experts. A flood of people with the aptitude, discipline and talent to meet the market demand.
Not just for geeks!
While the “geek” community with fill the market gap for proven AI experts, there will be a secondary and much larger market for knowledge workers who possess a high degree of AI prompting ability to enhance their personal and team productivity. AI Literacy will soon become a required capability for companies seeking new employees.
Most workers will eventually be expected to acquire a reasonable level of AI literacy. That literacy will be associated with the most widely used tools such as Bing Chat, Microsoft’s implementation of GPT4. The sooner people begin to master AI prompting skills, the better. The rest of this essay suggests a way to encourage people to become competent AI prompters.
Gaming with AI Prompts.
Video games have been popular for decades and they come in a wide variety of genres and sophistication. The low-tech Rubik’s Cube has been a problem-solving game, also available for decades, that requires a “trial and error” approach to solve its puzzle. Why not combine the features of both to teach people to AI prompt and have fun while learning the prompting skill?
Imagine as online game presented to users on their preferred mobile device as an app, or even a plug-in feature for GPT4, Bing Chat and perhaps other LLM platforms like Google’s BARD. The app offers a series of problems that have already been solved but the game player does not know how each was solved. The player’s challenge is to formulate an AI prompt that will generate the correct answer and an explanation of the logic behind the solution. The gamers will need to develop increasingly advanced AI prompting skills in order to solve the problem with the least number of AI prompt attempts. Gamers will be rated/ranked by their proficiency in solving problems, “AI prompt challenges”, and level of complexity of challenge they have solved. The game will come with a number of solved problems that will challenge the player at their level of competence, from beginner to master, and record their progress in AI prompt competency reported privately or publically.
God’s AI Game can be played alone, like solitaire or computer chess, or played in online teams that compete. The AI prompt teams will compete in leagues and ranked by their competive success over time (seasons like hockey, baseball, etcetera). The “stats” of league players can be following that the batting average of great home run hitters in profession baseball.
This game can offered via a subscription service to generate recurring revenue. New Challenges will be supplied regularly as part of the subscription service.
Software gaming companies are in the best position to capture the market for teaching and building AI prompting skills. That market is sure to become massive. Any company that enters this market first will have an advantage in winning significant market share.
AI opportunities for everyone.
Individuals will find a lucrative and fascinating careers in AI Prompting without necessarily requiring formal training. Some players will naturally possess exceptional aptitudes for AI prompting skill which they will discover as players of God’s AI Game. Their proven success as an elite game players may open career doors that would have unlikely unless this aptitude was proven to be fully developed through the game.
I predict that a wide range of future prompt specialists will not require a university degree to be hired into excellent, well-paid jobs. Their fully-developed AI prompting talents will be respected and sought after in the same way that the best golfers do not require academic credentials to play golf professionally. Only their highly developed skills matter.
If anyone finds this topic of interest as a potential career, let’s talk. I spent over 36 years working as an IT Recruiter and, based on this experience, I believe that there are great career prospects for people who take the field of AI seriously.
