Jody Wilson-Raybould as Liberal leader?
Jody checks all the boxes to preserve votes in the next election if the Liberals have any hope of avoiding the fate of the Hindenburg in 2025. Would she accept if nominated by the Party?
This image would not be a good look for the Liberty Party of Canada’s legacy after next year’s federal election. However, it could happen given the shambles that Justin has left as the major theme of his legacy.
The spectre of legacy journalism in decline.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), unlike the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). is not funded by the Liberal Government of Canada. This allows the BBC’s journalists and editorial board at least a few degrees of freedom more than CBC staff to report without an huge dose of bias. This BBC article portrays how Canadian politics is viewed from “across the pond” which looks and smells somewhat fresher than anything cooked up by the CBC.
Written in 2019; Jody Wilson-Raybould: The woman who fought Justin Trudeau reminds us of those days of a media-feeding frenzy over the SNC Lavalin affair. It was just one of many scandals from which Trudeau escaped miraculously unscathed.
Change is coming.
Rumours have circulated for over a year that Mark Carney will return to Canadian politics as the new ‘golden boy’ who shows promise for taking the Liberal Party’s reins of leadership to ensure a safe flight for Canada’s political equivalent of the Hindenburg.
Big ships are notoriously hard to turn. This truism applies to the bloated Canadian bureaucracy which has grown without precedent under the initial governance of a Liberal majority government followed by the wholly unpopular Liberal/NDP “unholy alliance”.
Only a Conservative pilot of Pierre Poilivre’s caliber has any realistic chance of grounding the Liberal/NDP airship as it flies into evermore public debt and seeds endless fields of prosperity-destroying regulations. At this stage, the bromance between Trudeau and Singh is unlikely to end the flight of their faltering ‘airship’ with only a little smoke damage😳.
Why is Jody a better pick than Carney?
Let me list the ways:
Jody is a declared adversary of Justin Trudeau and everything he represents.
As a woman, she will attract more female votes than Carney. This portends well for Liberals, and a Liberal official opposition in Parliament is referred over the NDP or Bloc Québécois.
An aboriginal with the looks and credentials to prove it, Jody is sure to attract the votes of aboriginal sympathizers.
Her past policies stances have revealed her to be a “tried and true” Liberal. There is not much about her than can be sent and “fringe” in Liberal circles.
Jody and her family live a Canada. She has witnessed first hand the harms Justin has brought to Canadians. Meanwhile, Carney was absent.
Unlike Mr. Carney, Jody is not associated with the globalist World Economic Forum. This will appeal to anti-globalist voters of Liberal persuasions.
Mrs. Wilson-Raybould has political experience as a sitting MP in Parliament while Carney is an unelected career bureaucrat with experience and connections in central bank institutions of Canada and England. Unfamiliar with running political campaigns, inexperienced Carney will likely make a few mistakes.
Jody’s actions and behaviour during the SNC Lavalin affair revealed her to be highly principled and professional. She is unlikely to be tainted by scandals whereas Carney is an unknown owing to his long absence from the Canadian media and political fishbowl.
Do I want Jody as Canada’s next Liberal Prime Minister?
No, absolutely not!
Do a prefer Jody over Carney as the next Liberal Opposition Leader?
Yes.
There is something slimy about Carney that I can’t quite put a finger on, but let me try.
Jody is a known entity; Carney is not. He will be “packaged” by the Liberal regime the way they packaged Justin Trudeau ten years ago to convince millions of gullible Canadian voters to believe him to be a saviour with “sunny ways”. Look how that turned out.
I doubt that Canadians will be fooled again by Liberal Political Machine. Their tactics had some success in the past prior to the rise of ubiquitous social media networks.
Justin cannot escape the public’s perception of him as the poster child of Liberal failure in Canadian politics.
Justin Trudeau has been synonymous will Canadian Liberalism for nearly a decade, is now he is going down. The only question left is: How far down will Trudeau Liberal legacy drag the Party’s reputation regardless of who replaces Justin?”
Jody does not seem the kind of woman who would be easily lured into “combative politics”. The Liberal caucus has been the least competent of any in living Parliamentary history; the half-good ones have abandoned ship. Furthermore, Justin Trudeau gave Canadians an endless string of scandals and dumb decisions like “the budget will balance itself”. I don’t see Jody following in those footsteps.
I also suspect that Prime Minister Pierre Poilievre will be less likely to aggressively attack Jody than Mr. Carney given that Carney’s central banking background lends itself to be more vulnerable to attack than Jody’s legal background.
I would like the next decade to be one of civility in Parliament so that less time is spent on partisan squabbling and more on the serious matters that affect Canadians every day. My gut says that Jody Wilson-Raybould as Opposition Leader would portent that political atmosphere than Carney in that role.
