Letters to Anna and ?person.
I am a little behind in reading of Facebook Messenger correspondence because Facebook awarded me an unexpected “holiday” two years ago and have boycotted it every since.
Letters to Anna and ?person ( a little late LOL)
Hello Anna,
A few years ago, I posted some comments in your [Conservative] Facebook group that prompted you to question my political allegiance. I decided to answer this morning.
I have been a politically active Libertarian since 2007 and an advocate for less government since 1979. I was a candidate for the PPC once, and for the Ontario and federal Libertarian parties 8 times.
I have never ran as a candidate for the purpose of getting elected. Instead, I represent the ideas in which I believe and they are grounded in Libertarian principles. In addition, I generally vote for any candidate that seeks to address the #1 Problem in Canada today, TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT. This problem cannot be resolved until our elected representatives will commit to eradicate the root cause of the problem, TOO MUCH LEGISLATION which underpins all authority of governments to tax and control us, and to spend irresponsibly.
Voting for a political brand is a tribal form of politics.
Tribalism divides people as does religion and other collective belief cultures. It leaves little to no room for individuals to think for themselves and choose accordingly. It is not what I want for this country and cheerleading for a red, blue, orange, green or purple party as if they were sports teams is not appropriate when so much is at stake.
[To the reader: I had attended the weekly meetings of a local “freedom group” for a few years but it had evolved to become more religious and less focused on its the original purpose. I decided to stop attending and explained why to ‘person?’]
Hi ‘person?’
I did not see your message until today (two months late).
You have asked that I “tolerate your Faith” when attending the ?Freedom group meetings, but my tolerance is not at issue here. Freedom of Informed Choice is. I respect your choice of Faith, but I am under no obligation to participate in it.
Libertarians like me live by the code “live and let give”. I left the ?Freedom group because it had become a religious community within which I no longer fit. It was best that I leave and form an action group [Advocates for Civil Society] that focuses only on the issues that matter most to me. We may share common goals but we believe in different methods to achieve them.
I wrote the CHARTER for Advocates for Civil Society and am accepting people to join us voluntarity provided that they agree with the CHARTER. We have only two participants so far although I have received an expression of interest from another person in the ?Freedom group.
This is a win for everyone.
For those constituents who believe that Faith in God will be a source of good that can create a better world, the ?Freedom group will continue to exist as will thousands of church services across Canada.
For people like me that prefer secular action over prayer, the doors of the Advocates for Civil Society will be open.
We are not in competition with your ?Freedom group. We are simply following our conscience and preferences to pursue positive change.
