This short video is the second of a new series of OLP podcasts. We want Ontario electors to know us and this is one way to do so.
How I know Michelle
Michelle joined the OLP a few years ago and it wasn’t long before she was elected to the Executive Committee. She has been a leader of another activist community in Northern Ontario before she came to us. It was clear that she had leadership qualities and experience that we value greatly.
Surprise.
Most people who join the OLP, me included, don’t know that they hold Libertarian values until they stumble upon the Party and its Principles. This usually occurs by happenstance. I believe that’s how Michelle came to us. I had joined in 2007 under similar circumstances.
Visitors Welcome
Not everyone who enters the Libertarian orbit stays.
Some, like me, have already been predisposed to Libertarian ideas and they resonate deeply. I read all of Ayn Rand’s books in my early 20s and had adopted much of her philosophy as my guide to life, liberty and citizenship. Rand is a common root influence that shaped the convictions of many Libertarians today, but not the only one.
Others visit, then leave, because they are superficially attracted to the platform of the Ontario Libertarian Party. They inevitable view it as an ideal option to counter the more authoritarian policies of the major parties. However, they often become disillusioned by the OLP’s lack of significant political success in spite of over 40 years of trying.
I believe in the principle of Freedom of Informed Choice for all citizens. I appreciate every person who comes to visit us whether it only for a short time or a long stay. It's our ideas that matter most. Any level of accurate Libertarian awareness that we can build in the “public square” is our main desire. Perhaps some day political success may follow.
See her Campaign page.
You will find Michelle to be a very nice person who cares about people and who will act to support meaningful, principled causes and organizations.
As a former OLP Chairman myself, I am proud to know her and to see her in a key leadership role within the Ontario Libertarian Party.
