One more reason for optimism.
Meta announced positive policy changes to promote free speak following similar moves by X. The EU pro-censorship elites are upset; threaten access to EU markets by X and Meta. What will Trump do?
Meta’s Fact-Checker Pivot Stirs Unease in EU Commission

2025 promises to be a good year for freedom of speech.
Here are some interesting statements from this article:
Meta will begin replacing its fact-checkers in the United States with a new “community notes” system similar to Elon Musk’s platform X, the tech company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced. He called fact-checkers “too politically biased,” saying they “destroyed more trust than they created.”
“Europe has an ever-increasing number of laws, institutionalizing censorship, and making it difficult to build anything innovative there, ” he said.
Calls to use the DSA (the EU’s Digital Services Act) to clamp down on Meta’s rival X, owned by Elon Musk, intensified this week as Musk interviewed Alice Weidel, the leader of Germany’s right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, on Jan. 6.
“One hundred and fifty EU officials are supposed to monitor my conversation with Elon Musk,” said Weidel on X shortly before the live interview.
Canadian voters are watching.
The EU’s political and public officials have gone much too far as law-makers and regulators. Many Canadians sense the same problem here.
In the EU, for example, the adoption of Green Energy policies, solar panels and wind turbines, drove up energy costs five-fold. This has resulted in geo-political tensions over energy. Those policies created such a bad economic environment that many manufacturers have moved production out of the EU (particularly from Germany) to more business-friendly countries.
Now, by adopting extreme Censorship laws, those same Brussels elites are picking bare-knuckle fights with the likes of Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump. Ring-side seats anyone?
Digital Communism is failing… again!
While the EU has adopted policies to create bloated bureaucracies with communistic powers to control its businesses and citizens, Americans have signalled the exact opposite path. America elected billionaire businessman Donald Trump who announced the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) under the leadership of Elon Musk, the world’s most successful business entrepreneur, and Vivek Ramaswamy who is also no slouch in business success. These are three “captains of capitalism” poised to take on hordes of bumbling bureaucrats - an interesting matchup.
Canadians will go to the polls later this year.
The trends are clear. Meta and X dominate in the social media landscape. The rapid growth of long form interviews by people like Dr. Jordan Peterson and Tucker Carlson (at the expense of mainstream media outlets) is certain to rise further and influence election outcomes. With the extreme public discontent with Trudeau’s Liberal (“communistic”) regime as measured by opinion polls, it is virtually guaranteed that Canada will also tilt in the DOGE direction soon assuming that Pierre Poilievre follows the DOGE-Trump lead.
Of special note, Donald Trump announced his endorsement of Pierre Poilievre today.
