PUBLIC NOTICE on ENERGY SECURITY.
Is there a public appetite for a debate between an elected public official who supports the “climate change crisis theory” and the author of a book that question the wisdom of climate change policies?
*** PUBLIC NOTICE on ENERGY SECURITY ***
On November 7, a resident to the City of Kawartha Lakes, Gene Balfour, delivered a deputation to City Council. In it, he urged Council’s nine members to publicly declare ENERGY SECURITY as a higher priority than the alleged and unspecified threats claimed by the “climate change crisis” theory.
Balfour contends that many public decision-makers are too quick to impose higher taxes and more regulations on our citizens and businesses which jeopardize the availability of reliable and affordable energy.
Today, it seems that every elected representative at every level of government has a happy “climate change” trigger finger. They take direct aim at our financial and social freedoms, all in the name of some unspecified and unsubstantiated “climate change” threat.
What makes public officials tick?
Why would any elected representative choose to create policies that they know with certainty will harm the public? If they know something that we do not know, do they not feel a duty to fully explain their decisions to the public?
The incantation of the words “climate change” is no longer a good enough “explanation”.
Any public decision-maker who used those magic words as justification for anti-ENERGY SECURITY policy clearly lacks the scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills to adequatey defend and protect our citizens from unwarranted harm and aggression by uncontested “climate change” legislation.
CARBON TAXES are just the tip of that iceberg of unwanted policies.
A Public Debate?
During his presentation, Mr. Balfour invited Councilor Pat Warren to a public debate on the City’s “climate change” policies and their impact on ENERGY SECURITY. Ms Warren is known to be an ardent supporter of the “climate change crisis theory”. Gene is the author of the book “What to do about CLIMATE CHANGE - a Libertarian Proposal”.
A public debate between them would provide an excellent opportunity for the public to hear opposing perspectives on the “climate change” and ENERGY SECURITY topics.
The event could be recorded and made available for wisespead public availability via YouTube and Rumble. It could also be a useful lesson for high school students to discuss and debate a topic of importance to their futures.
Invitation rebuffed.
Unfortunately, Councilor Warren has refused Mr. Balfour’s invitation citing that neither participants are climate scientists.
By her logic, it makes me wonder if any member of City Council is qualified to make public policy decisions when “climate change” is a component. Council is regularly called upon to make such decisions.
If she refused the invitation on those grounds, shouldn’t every member of Council recuse themselves from “climate change” decisions and the potential to jeopardize ENERGY SECURITY? After all, are any of them “qualified”?
In fact, perhaps every Mayor and Councilor in all 444 municipalities across Ontario should abstain from all “climate change” decisions on the grounds that they are “not climate scientists”.
Will she change her mind?
I wish I could convince Councilor Warren to participate in the public discussion. I believe that every elected officials has a “duty of transparency”. This public event could serve the interests of all 78,000 CKL constituents by displaying her competence and, by extension, the competence of the entire City Council to make informed decisions on our behalf.
ENERGY SECURITY is too important to every Canadian to leave it in the hands of anyone with a “happy trigger finger” who will shoot before knowing all the facts.
The “climate change crisis theory” is still just a theory. Making public decisions solely based on those magic words “climate change” is unacceptable in this Digital Age of unlimited information.
After watching my ENERGY SECURITY deputation, do you think a number of requests from the public may convince Councilor Warren, or perhaps another member of Council, to engage in the public discussion and reveal Council’s expertise on the “climate change” topic?
Mr. Balfour may not be a climate scientist, and certainly does not possess any of the authority of elected office to vote on public policies decisions like all members of City Council, but he can certainly reveal some relevent scientific facts and raise pertinent questions that will make the event memorable.
Our duty as citizens.
Isn’t it the duty of every citizen to hold their public officials accountable to our needs and priorities such as ENERGY SECURITY? This is what BingChat says:
Yes, it is the duty of citizens to hold their elected representatives accountable. In a democratic system, elected representatives are chosen by the people to represent their interests and make decisions on their behalf. As such, it is important that citizens hold their representatives accountable for their actions and decisions. This can be done in a number of ways, including voting in elections, contacting representatives directly, attending town hall meetings, and participating in protests or other forms of activism. By holding their representatives accountable, citizens can help ensure that their voices are heard and that their interests are represented in government123
Looking forward to the debate. Please keep me posted on time and location.
