Timeless Wisdom
While this video is a year old, the advice is timeless! The “villain” of the story is, once again, Big Pharma.
If you watch this video, I recommend that you also read the comments section regarding the reactions to the advice offered by Stephen A Hoption Cann, PhD and Clinical Professor, School of Population & Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. This video has since had nearly 1.6 million views which speaks volumes about its value, especially during a pandemic.
The Bottom Line
The human immune system is a miracle of evolution. It draws upon the innate biological wisdom of the human body acquired over countless infections to overcome illness. All of the wisdom was amassed well before the existence of modern drugs such as Tylenol and other fever reducers. Furthermore, the same wisdom will guide us as to how much to eat and drink during a fever-induced illness.
Most contemporary physicians, trained in age of “pharmaceutical medicine”, may suggest that the patient go to bed, drink plenty of fluids and take Tylenol to reduce the fever. As Stephen explains, the human immune system will raise the fever to kill the virus/bacterial infection and encourage drinking only when thirsty and eating only when hungry.
I am not suggesting that anyone ignore their physicians advice. However, I am suggesting that we also heed the guidance of our own immune systems. The advice of a good naturopath may also be helpful.
Will Miracles Never Cease?
Another miracle is the modern podcast. Discussions like this one between a public health scientist like Dr. Hoption Cann and a retired PhD/ Professor of Nursing like Dr. Campbell were not possible before the Internet. Stephen’s research papers would likely have reached only a few dozen people and the published results only taught to medical students in a classroom setting.
The fact that 1,581,399 people have viewed this discussion is certainly a miracle by historical standards.
