The Lies My Government Told Me.
The Psychology of Totalitarianism by Dr. Mattias Desmet on the ‘mass formation psychosis’ phenomenon is a great book. Its brilliantly explains cults, propaganda and zealotry.
This I what you were told.
Ever since Justin Trudeau launched his $599 million annual Media Bailout Fund in October 2018, the Board of Directors of every eligible media company adopted a “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” corporate policy. Every member of their editorial team was ordered to perform their jobs in accordance with that policy.
Recently, cracks in “Teflon Trudeau” have begun to appear.
The CBC didn’t need access to the Media Bailout Fund because they were already paid to be “Liberal friendly”. As a division of the federal government, those employed by the CBC are entitled to twice the tax dollars than all other members of the corporate media sector combined.
The Media Bailout Fund was to last five years.
Canadians were told that the traditional corporate media companies needed generous tax subsidies to help them to compete with their formidable Internet competitors. Five years is ending.
An election is on the horizon and my ‘dollars-to-donuts’ bet says that Justin will announce an extension to the Fund just before he announces the next election date.
Bribery works to win elections don’t ya know.
A Conservative Proposal for Pierre Poilivre
Yesterday, a friend and I discussed what Pierre Poilievre should do if his federal Conservatives win a majority government in 2025. Defund the CBC, certainly, but what should he do about the legacy corporate media?
My wife and friend want the Trudeau Pinnochio Era end once and for all.
They argue that an immediate termination of all media subsidies will hasten the journalism industry to return to holding politicians and public institutions to account for their decisions and actions in a balanced manner.
In the Trudeau “corrupt media” era, government propaganda became the norm. Canadians were told what Trudeau’s regime wanted us to know. They propagated only Liberal/NDP-flattering, one-sided narratives.
The media industry’s corporate boards faithfully complied to ensure receipt of brown paper bags full of subsidy cash with a Thank You card signed: from “Justin and friends”.
Canadians suffered enormous harm under five years of propaganda.
I favour two years of an annual PROPAGANDA HARM REVERSAL FUND under a Poilievre Conservative majority government.
This investment would incentivize traditional corporate media boards to follow a playbook under the following theme:
“THAT is what your were told between 2018 and 2024.
THIS is what you were NOT TOLD.
Here is the REST OF THE STORY”
The effect of Liberal propaganda was to establish a mass formation psychosis in the Canadian public - one that defied logic, science and common sense. There is no medical treatment for this affliction and no magic bullet to undo the cult-like beliefs to which many people succumbed. They absorbed, and steadfastly believed, endless lies about the pandemic, climate change and other topics that align with Trudeau’s mad scheme to transition Canada to “the world’s first post-national state”.
A two-year programme funded by Poilievre Conservative policies to unhook Canadians from the ‘mind control’ effects of five years of Liberal propaganda is sensible. It will go a long way to nourish their critical thinking abilities, reset their insistence on real scientific proof before accepting any “crisis” claim, and to reinstate the kind of investigative journalism that truly informs our citizens rather than brainwashes them.
This is one Conservative expenditure that this Libertarian would support. After two years, all bets would be off. May the best (wo)man win the competition to find loyal paid subscribers like me.
