The only true DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM.
The truth about Libertarians is that we are always playing defence against the offence of predatory democratic socialism. It’s the story of the spider and the fly.
A Memorable Event.
Yesterday, I attended the Annual General Meeting of the Ontario Libertarian Party in Oshawa. Inspired by the discussions, one enduring thought took up residence in my mind and was still there this morning after a good night’s sleep.
Morgan, a new member, was still trying to imagine what life would be like under a Libertarian government after the meeting ended. He, like most people, has lived his entire life under a veritable ocean of rules and constraints that were created and imposed by a complex web of governing bodies.
Stockholm Syndrome is how I characterize the paradigm of governance beliefs that pervades modern culture, especially in urban centres. The understanding and implications of true freedom become difficult to imagine for anyone who has lived extensively under such a paradigm.
To put it in the terms of psychologist Dr. Mattias Desmet, most citizens are suffering under a mass formation psychosis that has been established by ubiquitous propaganda from “the authorities in charge”. The collective belief in this paradigm is like a mindworm that has taken up permanent residence in the public psyche.
It’s hard to envision a life in which each of us has the Freedom of Informed Choice to undertake more Personal Responsibility rather than ceding it to the authority of elected and unelected strangers. I hope Morgan wakes up this mourning with a glimpse of what that might be like.
Spiders and nightmares.
My eldest daughter, around the age of 2, had recurring dreams of spiders. She would run to me in the night asking me to tell the spiders to go away. That was my first experience of battling those arthropods. Little did I know then that I would still be fighting spiders over 35 years later.
The Rolling Stones features a song call “The Spider and the Fly” on an early 1960s album. I now imagine that the spider is Jagmeet Singh and the fly a poor gullible caregiver who has been lured into the spider’s web of lies and deceit with his promise of “free” pharmacare.
To paraphrase one stanza from the song, I can envision Jagmeet nudging his “partner in crime”, Justin , and repeating what he said to his latest caregiver victim:
My, my, my
Says the spider to the fly,
Welcome, my dear, into my web.
Generations of spiders have created the web.
It has become nearly impossible for anyone to imagine a society without the weblike structures that currently sustain it. There are spiders everywhere working to maintain and extend that web.
Marshall McLuhan was famous for saying “The medium is the message” in the 1960s. I wonder how amazed he may be it he were to witness our contemporary reality - “he who controls the medium controls the message and the culture”.
Andrew Breitbart’s oft-quoted statement “Politics is downstream of culture” is a truth that returns to me often. The spider has built and controls the media web. Dominant predators hate it when competitors encroach on their territory. The spider works diligently to ensure that no flies can hear the Libertarian aspirations for more Individual Freedom.
A final quote, this time by Sir Walter Scott, is appropriate to characterize the efforts of Democrat Socialist predators like Jagmeet Singh and Justin Trudeau:
“Oh what a tangled web we weave,
when first we practice to deceive.”
The goal of every Libertarian
Libertarians are known to advocate for a “live and let live” philosophy that is in direct contrast the the Spider’s goals.
Politically, we exist to untangle the spider’s web and protect every caregiver from the constant lies and deceptions practiced by every wannabe, predatory Democratic Socialist.
LIBERTARIANS: the ONLY TRUE DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM
The Ontario Libertarian Party exists on the battlefield of politics to defend and protect all caregivers from all democratic socialist parties that are best characteristiced as nests of spiders.
One must acknowledge that not all those living within the web wish to be disentangled from it. A culture of dependency is now well entrenched in the psyche of a significant segments of our society. Anti-libertarianism, from recent polls, exposes a twisted perception, instilled by our ed institutions that freedom is dangerous and part of plot by the right.
