The Red, White and Blue
I asked BINGchat to explain the significance of those colors in the American flag.
The Signficance.
The colors of the American flag, red, white, and blue, each have a symbolic meaning 123. Here is what they represent:
Red: Hardiness and valor, as well as courage and readiness to sacrifice. It is also sometimes said to represent the blood shed by those who have fought to protect our freedom and our country.
White: Purity and innocence. Pure, because we are independent from other countries and hold true to our ideals.
Blue: Vigilance, perseverance, and justice. A reminder that we must remain watchful and strong.
The Irony
In contemporary politics, the colour RED symbolizes Republicans, BLUE is for Democrats and WHITE is the skin colour of the original caucasian settlers who came to America from Europe to conquer the native people and to import dark-skin slaves to work their confiscated lands.
These colours represent the social and economic divisions that have festered in its culture for centuries. Most Americans are patriotic, honour their flag as the quintessential symbol of their national pride, and they will all stand at attention to it at a football game while proudly singing their national anthem with hand over heart.
What is particularly interesting about these colours to me is that they are also symbolic of the tribalism that exists in the American Psyche. As a people, Americans are deeply religious, fiercely loyal to their preferred political party, fervant followers of the favourite sports teams and entertainment idols, and diabolically committed to the belief that America is the best and most moral nation on earth, deserving of the role as the world’s policeman and chief arbitor in all international disputes.
Donovan
In the 1960s, a popular folk singer from England sang of the meaning of colours in a more gentle way:
Colours
Yellow is the colour of my true love's hair
In the mornin', when we rise
In the mornin', when we rise
That's the time, that's the time
I love the best
Blue is the colour of the sky-yy
In the mornin', when we rise
In the mornin', when we rise
That's the time, that's the time
I love the best
Green's the colour of the sparklin' corn
In the mornin', when we rise
In the mornin', when we rise
That's the time, that's the time
I love the best
Mellow is the feelin' that I get
When I see her, m-mmm
When I see her, uh huh
That's the time, that's the time
I love the best
Freedom is a word I rarely use
Without thinkin', mm huh
Without thinkin', mm huh
Of the time, of the time
When I've been loved
The 1960s hippies championed love, harmony and peace.
They attended anti-war rallies wearing sandals, peace beads and flowers in their hair. Where did they all go? Did they die out like the ancient dinasours, of did they just evolve to become today’s generation in power divided by the Red, White & Blue?
