It used to be a rare treat to indulge a bit at Christmas. The problem now is that it is CHRISTMAS year round. When I was growing up food was kind of scarce. I was fed 3 squares a day of home cooked food and there was very little snacking between meals. There was no money for junk food like chips or pop and we may have gotten an apple or a peanut butter sandwich if we were STARVING. Look at children now. No parent leaves home without juice boxes and fish crackers. The kids munch away all day on junk, and then the parents wonder why they are not interested in eating supper. This goes on 365 days a year, and for adults too. It is no wonder metabolic syndrome is epidemic! We can't get away from junk food, and it is hard to resist. They have cookies at the BANK for GAWDS SAKE!!!! Sadly, do not look to THE RULING CLASSES to help. I think a grassroots campaign of JUST SAY NO to junk food may be our only hope. I'm not sure though that many people are aware of the fact they are making THEMSELVES sick.
