UNFAIR Per Vote Subsidies (Part 2)
The election results for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock are official. Candidates who got at least 2% of the vote total earned a subsidy of ~$10 per vote for the next 4 years payable to their party.
Five of 9 Parties get the subsidy.
Here is how much from this ONE riding.
PC 26,506 votes @ ~$10 = $265,060
LIBERAL 11,688 votes @ ~$10 = $116,880
NDP 6,993 votes @ ~$10 = $69,930
Green 2,602 votes @ ~$10 = $26,020
New Blue 926 votes @ ~$10 = $9,260
TOTAL: over $450,000
The results of the recent election guarantees that five political parties will get a share of the $450,000 that is now guaranteed resulting from the table shown above simply because the local candidates got over 2% of the vote. The other four candidates failed to qualify.
Only political parties are eligible.
Money wins elections.
If Independent candidates can’t qualify, if their any hope for a Direct Democracy involving decentralized governance accountable to the rising electorate?
There are 124 ridings in Ontario.
If this if typical in all 124 Ontario ridings, some (124 x $450,000) = $55,800,000 of your tax dollars will be sent to the largest parties over the next 48 months.
Can the Party System ever be defeated if over $55 million is spent to prop it up?
DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS?
New Blue 926 votes @ ~$10 = $9,260
