A NEW FORMAT for assessing local Election Candidates *** May 24 event is CANCELLED***
Let’s see them in action and evaluate how they perform in addressing real issues
*****CANCELLED due to SCHEDULING CONFLICT *****
Another all candidates event was announced today ( Wednesday May 18) in Coboconk on May 24 which posed a scheduling conflict for all candidates. We are discussing an alternative date for Inflation in HKLB: A Discussion with local Political Candidates.
================================================ =================
“ALL CANDIDATES DEBATES” are generally a disappointment. Often they result in a less-than-satisfying experience for attendees because too many questions are asked requiring that responses be limited to only 60 to 90 seconds. This is barely enough time to offer anything more than a superficial treatment of the question asked.
Equally disappointing, only the major parties have been invited to some of the so-called “all candidates” events which leaves the smaller or newer party candidates entirely out in the cold. This is certainly not the way to ensure that all voices are represented in the community because there are always voters who genuinely want real change in government and are eager to hear all ideas, approaches and options.
Long form podcasting has been popularized by people like Dr. Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, Trish Woods, Bari Weiss, Tom Woods and many others. Topics are investigated thoroughly in their discussions with expert guests usually over 30 to 90 minutes.
Introducing long form election events.
The following was sent to all 7 candidates who are registered with Elections Ontario to compete for the honour of becoming Member of Provincial Parliament to represent the 114,000 residents of the Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock electoral ridings in Ontario.

Inflation in HKLB: A Discussion with local Political Candidates.
Date: Tuesday May 24 from 7 to 9 PM
Where: Woodville in the church at 60 King St.
Host: Kawartha411
This event is a discussion, not a debate. It will focus on a single issue that affects us all - inflation.
Voters can assess each candidate’s ability to:
Understand and articulate the underlying causes of inflation. (Note: the term ‘inflation” is intended to be synonymous with the ‘rising cost of living’ in the HKLB riding).
Propose what can be done politically to remedy this problem in the short term and in the long term.
Outline the relevant skills, relationships, experience and/or expertise that each candidate brings to this issue. This it intended to shed some light on his or her qualifications/ability to address this complex problem.
There are 7 candidates officially registered with Elections Ontario to compete for the job of MPP for HKLB. Each one brings a different perspective on inflation and, likely, different ideas that could positively contribute to mitigating inflation and/or its affects. The organizers want the discussion to be positive, productive and focused on ideas/approaches that can lead to future success rather than on past failures.
Format.
Each candidate will initially take 2 - 3 minutes to present a summary of his or her response to all 3 of the questions presented above. This is meant to establish a starting position from which to base subsequent contributions to the discussion.
After initial presentations, the moderator will invite each candidate to address another candidate to ‘challenge’ his or her stated position and engage a discussion. The moderator will endeavour to keep discussions reasonably short to ensure everyone will have a chance to issue a ‘challenge’ if desired.
Since we learn from each other, don’t be surprised if some candidates shift from their initial position after hearing and considering solid arguments and well-founded information from other candidates.
The event is not expected to last much beyond an hour. However, a Q&A session will follow with questions from the audience which could lengthen the event.
Inflation in HKLB: A Discussion with local Political Candidates: will be recorded and can be distributed to any media outlet you wish.
Please RSVP as soon as possible. We hope that all 7 candidates will participate so that all ideas and perspectives are heard by the voting public in HKLB.
I like suggesting the focus on approaches that can lead to future success rather than on past failures. the solutions could be discovered together and be more productive than bashing people/parties' past mistakes. If this could be moderated strictly and the participants were disciplined as well, it could result in a really constructive and positive experience.
It could also be a great demonstration of how as a leader, you handle difficult and conflicting perspectives and how you can consider information that may be contrary to your current understanding. An elector should get the opportunity to really contemplate their potential representative in order to cast an informed vote.
In full disclosure, shouldn't you confess to being one of the seven candidates?
You claim it is to be a discussion, not a debate. But the format is just like an all candidates meeting except for the fact it is on a single topic. And I suspect each candidate will want to explain how their party will fix the problem.
