Bibi, the good and the bad.
Israel’s Prime Minister, ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu is a polarizing figure by circumstance and necessity. Leading a tiny Jewish state amidst much larger Muslim nations, it’s a cakewalk, right?
His LIFE LENS
I read the book ‘Bibi’ a few months ago. Benjamin Netanyahu takes you through his lifetime up until 2022. His perspectives on politics in the Middle East and America are worth reading.
Bibi is, however, an unapologetic Jewish leader who puts his nation first above all else.
The same can be said for Russia’s Putin and America’s Biden.
One thing I despise about most world leaders, especially Canada’s Justin Trudeau, is that the lure of self-aggrandizing wealth and power tends to blind them from seeing their primary duties which are to serve the people who elected them.
When I was proud to be Canadian.
I read ‘Right Here, Right Now’ a few years ago by former Cdn Prime Minister Stephen Harper. It provided me with an excellent peek into the mind of a the best national leader that I have witnessed in my lifetime (born in 1951).
Written as a retrospective on his years in politics, Harper provides valuable insights for every Canadian, and especially for aspiring politicians, into the challenging life as national leader.
Stephen Harper was a rare and wise political tightrope walker who saw a sea full of piranha on his ‘left’ and coiled cobras on his ‘right’. Given those circumstances, I am amazed that he lasted nearly 10 years in power.
Harper’s leadership was the last time that I felt proud to be Canadian.
The Spoils of Power
If I was American today (my eldest daughter is), I would be embarrassed to claim Joe Biden as POTUS and hang my head in shame. His political story, and that of his son’s (Hunter) exploitation of Joe’s political power, will some day be a page turner when it is written by anyone whose last name is not Biden.
If I was a Jew, I would be proud of the economic and technological progress made under Bibi, but denounce his war policies.
I don’t know what the solution is to the endless Jewish-Muslim animosity, but I am sure that an all out slaughter of thousands of human beings in Gaza is NOT the answer.
I wish I had time for a full comment, for now just a very short objection:
You say:
The same can be said for Russia’s Putin and America’s Biden.
Seriously?? Biden? Putting his nation first above all else?????
> I would be proud of the economic and technological progress made under Bibi, but denounce his war policies
You can't separate the two things. Israel is almost entirely an artificial state, founded on so many lies (ashcanazis are not genetic descendents of those original jews? and those original jews were themselves unjust violent conquerors of prior canaanites?). It leeches countless BILLIONS of dollars from US taxpayers every single year, not to mention the tech transfers - it's effectively a US military base. None of this is just or organic, and none of it is Netinyahoo's doing, very weird that you should credit any of this to him.
Nor can you separate all the blood on his hands, his vile racism, his enduring lust for genocide, his dishonesty (remember how EAGER he was to preemptively attack Iraq and Iran in the 90s, all the lies he pushed in furtherance of that (anthrax, wmd's), his probable involvement in 9/11?), oh the lies. He's a "war criminal", he's evil.
It's also weird that you should be proud of Harper. Sure he wasn't as overtly nasty and commie as the others, but he was still very evil (I guess he supported negligibly less brutal violent theft, he still supported violently telling us what we can eat, he still supported commie healtcare/welfare..). What exactly were you proud of about him?
