Especially over the last three years, I have come to view the Canadian flag and national anthem as symbols of oppression by Ottawa’s overbearing treatment of our citizens.
Having a "unified Canada", a tiny group of corrupt evil people in Ottawa governing half the entire continent, is ... deplorable. Newfoundland should never have joined the union, the devil's bargain. Quebec is a separate country. Alberta and co are desperately trying to secede. And the provinces themselves are way too big jurisdictions to be governed by a single tiny corrupt mafia - citadel ideas like Frenly Park in Saskatchewan need to be ENCOURAGED to flourish if we are to call ourselves moral and civilized.
Does this "conservative" Schmale agree? And if not ..... what's the difference between being enslaved by a local evil thug or a remote one? What's the difference between being kidnapped and caged for life by Justin Castro or Maxime Bernier (who has openly stated he'd do this, in his opposition to libertarianism.)
I feel your angst about the state of this nation. I know Jamie Schmale personally and voted for him because he sees the problems as I do and is trying to do something about them. Not everyone in Ottawa is corrupt and evil. Most are just stupid and naive. BUT, a few are truly corrupt and they have too much power. We know who they are.
If they support violently telling me what I can/cannot eat (prohibition laws), or who I can invite onto my property (immigration), or who can work (licensing laws), or if they support taking my money against my will, then they literally ARE evil - that's just the definition of the word (NAP violators). Bernier supports all those things, and I don't think there were any elected libertarians? I don't think Tim Moen was ever elected? (I'm not sure if Poilievre is a real libertarian, but the bits that I heard from him suggest he might be?)
> Most are just stupid and naive.
Nope. That's what they want you to think, wolves in sheep clothing. This is easily demonstrated whenever you try to explain things to them - they put a LOT of very precise and deliberate effort in tactical evasion. They know exactly what they're doing (it's really simple stuff, don't steal, don't hit, respect the concept of consent), they know exactly where the bodies are buried, they know the emperor isn't wearing a robe. Innocent/naive/stupid people don't behave like this.
I spent Canada Day at the Embro Highland Games. A good mix of pipe bands, games of strength, Canadian flags, animal shows, food and drink set in the rolling hills near Woodstock, Ontario. No homage to the current PM nor any funding from Ottawa, as far as I could detect, but at least a couple thousand Canadians of many backgrounds celebrating one of Canada's founding cultures.
> unified Canada

Please refer me to a link or article where Maxime Bernier will enslave us. I missed that one and was truly hoping that he was speaking pro-freedom.

I think of Canada Day as a celebration of the country, not the government. I also think of our flag as a symbol of CANADA, my country.
Define “country”.
