Do policies matter any more?
Is it just me, or have elections become more about form over substance in American and Canadian politics? Or more about big election budgets over getting populist ideas out to everyone?
Follow these steps.

Along the top of the picture of Trump, you will see the drop-down option ‘Candidates on issues’ which links to the page that looks like…
This section provides a multi-page, side by side comparison of the positions that Harris and Trump have taken over the years that they held office as Vice-President and President.
In the Election 2024 coverage by the journalism industry, you might think that this kind of comparison would be front and centre for every voter to compare, discuss, debate and share with others. Instead, this comparison was not easy to find.
Is Corporate Media the “Matrix”?
Some podcasters have recently referred the Corporate Media Cabal of six dominant corporations as The Matrix. A cult-like following has emerged since that movie first aired 25 years ago. The media industry has undergone enormous changes since then but the theme of the firm is timeless and more relevant today than ever.
Corporate journalists continually promote campaign stories, untrustworthy surveys and any salacious gossip that will attract people who like that sort of thing. Their impact on contemporary culture is immeasurable.
The media industry has done an excellent job of dividing voters into distinct political factions consisting primarily of citizens who treat politics the same way as they support their favourite sports heroes and entertainment celebrities.
It would be none of my business concerning how people vote if I was free to OPT-OUT of their choices.
However, as long as the rules and consequences of the game of “bully politics” (aka ‘rule by the majority’) remain in all Western nations, I am compelled to make it my business to protect myself and loved ones from the fallout of “nuclear weapons grade” political theatre.
Libertarians play defence.
Like all competitive sports events, the game of politics involves “offensive” and “defensive” tactics.
In the game of politics and public governance, the rules are rigged by the incumbents who possess the authority to write the rules. Consequently, the election ‘playing fields’ are severely slanted in favour of the incumbent political power cabal - a few dominant political parties and an unaccountable administrative behemoth.
Most everyone understands this reality at least on some intuitive level. However …
… many are so caught up in the hype of election contests that is matters more to them that their political heroes win than if their party policies will ultimately make losers of their own electors.
Advocates for Less Government like me feel helpless as the walls close in on our personal freedoms and the long arm of the Taxman reaches non-stop for our financial earnings and assets. Without an OPT-OUT exit choice, I personally feel resentment towards every one of my fellow citizens who votes for More Government in opposition to my vote for Less.
Their ‘offence’ forces every Libertarian voter to play ‘defence’.
We Libertarians spend much time identifying and complaining about the undesirable consequences of their offensive ways of Big Government voters. We try to figure out (albeit unsuccessfully) how to stop them from continually squeezing us into their legislative jail cells.
As the “government apparatus” gets bigger, its “captains” create evermore devious ways to keep us individually captive to their self-serving schemes.
I used to think that most voters took a rational approach to choosing their leaders, but I don’t today. I posted the image shown to remind everyone that policies matter more than personalities.
As a former professional recruiter, I was expected by my clients to seek and present the best candidates based on known and relevant competencies and their track record of equally relevant past successes. I consider the ‘Candidates on issues’ report as a side-by-side comparison of Harris’ and Trump’s resumes. It’s worthwhile to use it as such in order to study the ‘substance’ over the ‘form’, the ‘reality’ over the ‘hype’.
Don’t be deceived.
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are just human beings no different than you. It’s the captains of the Corporate Media Cabal who want you to believe they are giants among the 330 million Americans.
This myth has the force of cultural influence which can determine the path of history. The real power lies in the myth and those with the money, power and know-how to perpetuate it successfully.
Does not the Statement of Principles cover the lack of ethics, morals, values, honesty, integrity and self-discipline?
Those 6 media companies have become way too powerful and political. There is a docufilm all about it linked here. https://rumble.com/v2mwvyg-monopoly-who-owns-the-world-tim-gielen.html for those who wish to research further. The problem lies in people believing all the hype and rhetoric they watch on TV instead of doing their own research. I never knew I was a LIbertarian until you explained what that was, and I totally believe in less of Big G. I would love to be able to vote on all the policies and in this day of tech and smart phones we should very easily be able to do this, and or at least have referendums on major issues. They don't want us to have such power as they know there would be revolts and that would be too fair and make too much sense. I have come to believe that the majority of our officials - Senators, MP's and even the puppet head PM have all been captured by foreign entities who are unelected but who have money and power to control (think of the Open Society - Soros organization to name one). Too many bad decisions have been made by top officials for our country in the past 9 years at least and the overblown budget that future generations will be paying is absolutely disgusting. Even when S Harper was our PM and signed us on to the Paris Accord. I believe the elections are also selections and that is a whole other matter. These people we see in the public eye are being controlled by puppeteers who are very high up the hierarchy (think black Nobility families and BIS), this is what my research has shown me over the past few years. Anyway, I applaud you once again Gene for bringing such important issues to your Substack.
