Domestic Terrorism?

If this strange man came to your door, said he as “Grey Eagle”, accused you of an offence you did not commit, then claimed legal proceedings against you, would this be ‘domestic terrorism’?

This is David ‘Grey Eagle’ Sanford.

The man you see in the photo above appeared as a guest speaker for an evening ZOOM meeting on Monday, August 12. The two local men who hosted this ZOOM session (I will refer to them as WMD and SLOB) are residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes where I live.

The incident.

Grey Eagle, accompanied by WMD and SLOB, made a surprise visit to my front door mid afternoon on August 12. Identifying himself only as “Grey Eagle”, he began a rambling statement, presented a page of ‘hate speech’ propaganda to my wife, expressed untrue accusations about me, then claimed legal action had begun against me was “in the hands his indigenous lawyers”.

This incident frighted and unsettled my wife.

It left me concerned and uncertain as to how seriously I should take Grey Eagle’s legal threat against me.

I reported it to an OPP officer immediately.

About five hours after Grey Eagle, WMD and SLOB had trespassed my property to carry out their act of what I consider to be domestic terrorism, the OPP officer visited the Kawartha Lakes property of WMD where SLOB had already begun the ZOOM meeting. WMD left the meeting to speak with the officer who reported the complaint I had registered just hours earlier.

The Government of Canada acknowledges that domestic terrorism is difficult to define but here is one description I found which seems to fit this case.

In Canada, section 83.01 of the Criminal Code^[1] defines terrorism as an act committed "in whole or in part for a political, religious or ideological purpose, objective or cause" with the intention of intimidating the public "…with regard to its security, including its economic security, or compelling a person, a government or a domestic or an international organization to do or to refrain from doing any act."

My interpretation.

If Grey Eagle was telling the truth and he has engaged his “indigenous lawyers” to charge me, as the so-called infamous and anonymous Kawartha Lee, with acts of slander against him personally or others (likely indigenous persons) he may represent, then the result of the incident was to intimidate my wife and compel me to engage lawyers for a defence. This, to me, qualifies as an act of domestic terrorism. WMD and SLOB would be guilty of facilitating this abrogation of peace and Justice with intent of malice.

It’s Easier To Ask Forgiveness Than To Get Permission

I feel that I have no recourse short of an expensive legal undertaking to protect and defend myself, family and property against future events like this incident. My first line of defence, the OPP, simply took my report and told the perpetrators not to do it again.

I had no warning that David ‘Grey Eagle’ Sanford, WMD or SLOB would trespass on my property on August 12.

I certainly did not grant them permission to trespass on my property.

I do not understand how they can threaten me and to present HATE SPEECH to my wife on a 8x11 sheet of paper and get away with this with only a warning.

In his monologue to my wife at our front door, the suspicious-looking Grey Eagle claimed to have come “all the way from Toronto” to deliver his message to in person because he was so upset. While he spoke, my wife could see the fat face of WMD expressing a goofy grin as he watched from the drivers seat of his truck just a few meters away. SLOB filmed the incident from the back seat of WMD’s vehicle parked in my driveway.

As the truck containing the three perpetrators pulled out of my driveway to leave, WMB shouted that I could attend his ZOOM meeting that evening to “defend myself” against the charges Grey Eagle claimed against me. Evidently, he expected me to do so which would provide spicy entertainment for his ZOOM attendees.

The claim.

In a nutshell, Grey Eagle believes me to the mysterious writer known as Kawartha Lee who has posted articles since late 2023 on the Pants On Fire blog which contained unflattering articles about a notorious resident who claims aboriginal heritage.

Grey Eagle is a stranger to me.

Yet, he alleged that I, under the anonymous name of “Kawartha Lee”, had published slanderous content which offended him deeply. For the record, I did not even know he existed until my wife told me of his visit to our front door.

This lie about me being “Kawartha Lee” must have been told to him by WMD and SLOB. After all, they both chauffeured him to my home after planning their terrorist outing, and then he later served as their guest speaker that evening on the ZOOM meeting.

By coincidence, a local friend attended that ZOOM meeting and reported to me that Grey Eagle’s presentation as a waste of time.

His identity.

Since his visits, I found this page about David Grey Eagle Sanford. It provides some insight into who our strange visitor was on August 12 and why he may have been easily manipulated by WMD and SLOB. I suspect that they to planned this episode together.

I consider it to be a premeditated act of domestic terrorism even if our police and government officials may not agree.

Believe it or not, the OPP officer told me that the incident did not legally constitute a “threat” because “no harm to person or property was evident according to the law”.

I find it very strange and disconcerting that words can have very different meanings within legal circles than when used in the common parlance of average citizens.

“The letter of the law” is very precise. It is based on arcane definitions that few people readily and unambiguously understand except lawyers. This explains why so many people find “legalese” so intimidating and confounding. Few citizens trust Canada’s “justice systems” because they see them as a number of unassailable and biased monopolies of legal power held by the state.

So much for “protection under the law”.

WMD and SLOB are not strangers to me. I have interacted with them in the past under different and more peaceful circumstances. In recent years, they both have become increasingly radicalized and brazen in the acts of public mischief.

I know, for example, that WMD was arrested and jailed in the past year for actions that threatened the safety of citizens. As an obese man in his mid 60s, he struggles to walk without a cane. For this reason, I doubt he is capable of engaging in physical violence any longer. However, there are many other ways to inflict harm on citizens for which he has demonstrated ample capability in the past.

SLOB is a religious zealot who claims to be doing the “work of God”. I wonder how he justifies his behaviour as being congruent with his faith and conscience when he participates in acts of domestic terrorism. Does he believe that he possesses Divine authority to do so? SLOB is not stupid and it is more than evident that I am not the mysterious Kawartha Lee who Grey Eagle believes to be guilty of slander. If his involvement in spreading lies and engaging of domestic acts of terrorism is the “work of God”, then SLOB is giving his God a very bad reputation.

To Serve & Protect?

The OPP officer did his job - nothing more and nothing less as prescribed by his position in the Police Services.

To seek more help, I visited the Justice of the Peace in Lindsay on Friday to discuss “legal remedies” that might protect me from men like those discussed above. The August 12 incident was not the first time WMD has aggressed against me, but never to the latest level of escalation. His time spent in jail this past year seems to have made him bolder, not less so.

The Justice of the Peace was friendly, professional and informative but also helped me to appreciate the true nature of our “Justice systems”: excessively bureaucratic, overly complex to navigate, highly stress-inducing, and potentially expensive and time-consuming.

I received approval to proceed with one legal remedy that will take months if I follow through to the end of its prescribed process. It offers a legal bandage to protect me against similar future threats. However, I know that WMD finds gaps in the legal system which emboldens him to practice his belief that: “It’s Easier To Ask Forgiveness Than To Get Permission”. For example, I don’t doubt that he expressed a suitable amount of contrition to the OPP officer who served notice of my complaint and then laughed it off with his co-conspirators after the officer had vacated his premises.

The bottom line.

I am left with the knowledge that WMD is a shrewd, manipulative man who can cause serious harm and get away with it unscathed.

The whole incident of August 12 is evidence to me that police and legal defences against known troublemakers like WMD and SLOB are inadequate (an understatement).

It’s hard to have confidence and trust in the police slogan “to serve and protect” and in Canada’s Rule of Law.

What’s your advice?

I haven’t reported this incident yet to the RCMP as a hate crime but it has occurred to me that 8x11 page signed by and presented in person by Grey Eagle to my wife is excellent evidence. It seems that the RCMP may be my best next step if local authorities can do little to help.
