Garbage in, garbage out
A friend who is a retired computer professional reminded me yesterday of this expression which was popular years ago. I realized that it still fits even today for AI platforms like ChatGPT.
Some concepts have broad application.
The ‘garage in, garage out’ (GIGO) phrase was true when computers were programmed in COBOL, Fortran, and BASIC. Today’s cloud computing is no different in concept even though the computer power is mostly remote and dispersed over many devises and processors. The entire Internet could be considered one massive computing facility housing billions of lines of code ready to react to requests from millions of users.
ChatGPT, like all Large Language Models (LLM), is fed a gluttonous diet of digital data. These AI platforms are only as good as the data consumed. This makes data the “digital gold” of the AI Economy. Any content that is still on paper cannot be consumed unless digitized first.
The potential for great wealth creation in the AI industry is enormous. Take GROK for example. Owned my Elon Musk, the DOGE czar, GROK could be be used to feed on all digital data in the American federal government, and I mean ALL‼️ Once these data are captured and available to skilled GROK prompt engineers to data mine for errors and corruption, there will be much less incompetence and malfeasance in as federal workplaces when subject to monitoring and scrutiny under GROK.
If GROK becomes the market leading AI platform for government Transparency and Accountability, imagine the potential for establishing the public’s TRUST in government services and decision-making‼️
The share price of GROK would skyrocket and Musk’s wealth would keep rising towards Mars‼️
My friend’s GIGO comment
Yesterday, I used ChatGPT to become better informed about Chemtrails. My friend sent me a link for Dane Wigington on Geoengineering Watch. I wanted to know more about Mr. Wigington.
As a former recruiter, I like to know how someone gains a reputation as an “expert in their field”. My investigation usually begins with reviewing a resume (or a LinkedIn profile) to review his or her relevant academic and work history.
I had hoped to learn about Dane’s past besides his experience as a film producer but nothing more was available.
Conspiracy theories are often driven by media entrepreneurs who possess the skills and talent to leverage those assets for profit.
Basic Economics.
All economic actors, including producers, consumers and regulators, engage in a reciprocal dance of self-interest based of some market need. Like the Climate Change Crisis Theory (CCCT), the market need is FEAR. Dane Wigington seems to be fanning the flames of Chemtrails FEAR and skilfully selling HOPE through his Geo-engineering Watch business.
Promoting FEAR and selling HOPE is a time-tested model for building enterprises in religion, public governance and various corporate sectors like pharmaceuticals.
It’s a no-brainer for entrepreneurs like Dane to build a following on those market levers.
FEAR is the Internet’s Gold Mine.
The Internet is the “great enabler” that shapes our individual attitudes, biases, choices and hopes. As its many providers of digital information services continue to integrate the capabilities of AI, their influence will grow even further as we have seen in the past.
Think of all the NGOs that have benefitted for the Climate Change FEAR mongering over the past two decades.
Think of all the corporations that benefited from the pandemic FEARs associated with the Covid-19.
Doug Ford recently capitalized on the FEAR of tariffs to justify an unnecessary election and power grab.
Is Dane Wigington the top Chemtrails FEAR mongerer? Will he become the top winner in the Chemtrails Sweepstakes? Will he deserve it?
GIGO is my quandary.
Today, it is hard to know who or what to believe.
ChatGPT has been on an enormous diet of digital data that has been scoured from courses like mainstream media corporations, government websites, legal libraries and theorists of all types including scammers.
To my friend, I expressed my views on LLMs:
I don’t regard ChatGPT as the “ultimate source of truth”.
Instead, I see it as a broad reflection of popular and official sources of news, opinion, and knowledge (credible or otherwise).
An LLM is just one source of information that I can access today to feed my genuine (ie non-artificial) intelligence to make informed decisions.
I believe that cloudseeding is considered geoengineering, and has definitely been used for decades.
Recall that during a 2021 press conference, former Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister said something along the lines of "I want to thank the people in charge for making that rain available, keep up the great work". This was a non-sequitor when a reporter asked a question about the effectiveness of ivermectin.
As for Mr Wiggington, I believe that that he claims to be a retired engineer from Bechtel Power. One article claims that his personal residence was featured in an article in a magazine called "Home Power". He claims to be a proponent of "Green energy", but believes that the chemicals used in geoengineering are decreasing the output of solar panels, amongst other environmental consequences.
Agree with your thesis on GIGO, particularly with AI. One can find almost anything on the internet. Making sense of what is true is the real challenge.
Gene, I disagree with your assessment of Dane Wigington. His work has been consistent and science backed over the years. Chemtrails are visible and verifiable by many other sources than Dane. To call his work exposing the truth as fear mongering is a game played by both sides. To know the difference is where the real challenges lie. That is up to the individual as to what they choose. Fear, or the truth ?
