Recently, I listened to episode E169 of the Trish Wood Is Critical podcast in which she made some unfavourable comments about people like me who describe themselves as a ‘Citizen Journalist’.
You are a good writer and citizen journalist is an apt and deserved title. I have more respect for writers like you than many other so called journalists.
Maybe Trish Wood thinks the government should set up a "College" or agency to decide who can call themselves a Journalist, like they've done for Physical Therapists, Engineers, and Medical Doctors.
Trish calls herself a “Woody Guthrie Libertarian”. She is a former lefty who liked Jack Layton, but now is “politically homeless”. I suspect that she would not support more government intervention, but would prefer that writers like me not use the term ‘journalist’ to distinguish between those who write for a living and those who don’t.
I would prefer that gay partners not refer to their legal union as ‘marriage’ but it seems that I am outnumbered by the “majority”. They could have called their ceremony as a “gay union” instead of inferring that theirs is the same as a heterosexual marriage. If there a suitable alternative to name my writing other than citizen journalist?
Gene, I believe you are a very good citizen journalist, and you produce much better work than those who are paid at the CBC where they aren't even journalists in my opinion any more as they are just spewing government propaganda. I am always enlightened by your articles and enjoy your views on many topics. I appreciate the reasons that you do write your Substack and that it is free, is a bonus!
Sadly it seems that mostly everyone who has been censored and defunded from other platforms is looking to get reimbursed and so they do monetize their work, which is understandable. While I can support some causes financially ( they are difficult decisions to make these days and I try to support those who have taken a moral stand against mandates) many of us are on limited budgets and with the uncertainty of the current inflation we are experiencing, many of us have to be fiscally responsible. Thank you for taking the time to write a Substack. I value it immensely. Blessings to you!

I couldn’t have said it better! Your response to this article echos my thoughts.
Thank you for your kind words. It is very gratifying that a least someone values my views!
